Extra Taxes
NONE THIS YEAR. WELLINGTON, February I'2. Further reference to his statement in Auckland that there would be no extra taxes this year was made by Hon. W. Nash to-day in order that his remarks should be fully understood, the Minister pointed out that only about six weeks of the current financial year remained. He said he was asked in Auckland what was to be done to make up the deficit on the fourpence per gallon petrol tax in the War Expenses Account, as a result of the petrol rationing. “My reply,” he said, “was that there will not be anything done during the present financial year, and I added that the determination of next year’s budget had not yet been completed.”
