Mrs. A. C. Murray, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs. W. Os-borne-Browne, Runanga, left yesterday bn return to Sydney.

Messrs C. McKechnie, J. ,W- Rothwell, L. Wilson, H. Moore, J. Devaney, W. Stopforth (Hokitika), H. Hamer (Kumara), Mrs. J. Reedy, Miss Irene Reedy (Kumara). and Mrs. D. Froggatt and Miss V. Hopklnson left yesterday for Wellington.

Mr E. E. Elphick, District Superintendent of the Live Stock Division, Department of Agriculture, and Mr B. Grant, Principal Inspector of the Live Stock Division for Canterbury and Westland, arrived yesterday on a visit to Greymouth.

Rev. Brothers Oswald (Director), Egbert and Bede, of the Marist Brothers, Greymouth, last year, will be returning here this year, while Rev. Brother Alexis is being stationed in Wellington, and Rev. Bro. Kevin in Auckland. The two latter are being replaced in Greymouth by Rev. Bros. Bonaventure and Hen;-/, who have previously been stationed here.

The death occurred recently at a Wellington private hospital, of Mr. Thornhill Cooper, formerly an inspector of the Public Works Department, and a resident of Hokitika. The deceased was a Lieutenant of the N.Z. Tunnelling Corps in the Great War. He was a member of the Hokitixa Bowling Club, the Pacific Lodge, and of the executive of the Hokitika Returned Soldiers’ Association. He leaves a widow, one son, and two daughters.

Dr. John MacKenzie, minister the Toorak Presbyterian Church, Melbourne, who has lust completed a term as Moderator-General of the Presbyterian Church of Australia, has arrived in Wellington for a holiday, and to represent Australia at the Presbyterian Church Centennial. Assembly next month. Bor n at Geraldine, Canterbury, and a graduate of the Otago University, Dr. MacKenzie was at one time minister of St. Andrew’s’ Church, Christchurch. He has been in Australia for 25 years.

A visitor to New Zealand is Mr James Morley, of the literary staff of Sydney’s Labour newspaper, ‘‘The Daily News.” Mr Morley, who is at present accompanying the Hon. R. Semple on his visit of inspection to public works in Westland, is utilising his tour to obtain an insight into the conditions in the Dominion as affected by the legislation and administration of the Labour Government, and on his return he will convey his impressions to the large circle of'“Daily News” readers in a series of articles. Mr Morley, who has had extensive journalistic experience in various Australian States, is favourably impressed with what he has seen of the Dominion and its people, noting that social conditions are universally sound, while he is enthusiastic over the scenery, particularly that afforded on the West Coast by its magnificent mountain masses and prolific verdure. Mr Morley will be returning to Sydney about the end of the present month.

After nearly 40 years’ continuous service to the Taranaki Hospital Board, for 23 of which she has occupied the position of Matron of New Plymouth Hospital, Miss B. A. Campbell, yesterday tendered her resignation to the board to take effect from July 31. Miss Campbell joined the hospital staff as a trainee in December, 1900, and continued to serve the hospital after completing the training course, and she was appointed Matron in June, 1917. Miss Campbell is president of the New Plymouth Branch of the Registered Nurses’ Association of New Zealand, and a member of the Nurses’ and Midwives’ Registration Board of the Dominion. She has always taken the keenest interest in everything pertaining to the advancement and welfare of her profession, and to the improvement of hospital services, arid a public acknowledgement wps made of her outstanding' services 'when she received the honour df the M.B.E. Otder among the New Year honours conferred last year. She is a daughter of the late ■Mr and Mrs J. Taylor Campbell, of Dunedin. Her sister, Miss -M.
