On Tuesday evening at the residence of Mrs T. Gillaly, Runanga, the Committee of the Runanga Plunket Society tendered a social evening to Mrs J. S. Rae who has resigned from the committee owing to ill healtn. Mrs Rae has been a member of -the Society since its inception having held office as vice-president and trustee. During the evening the president (Mrs Timlin) presented the guest- of the evening with an - autumn tinted vask Mrs Rae suitably responded. Games and) competitions were won by Mesdames Hambly, Griffiths, Oakley, Timlin and items were given by Mesdames King, Martin and Lee. :

The death occurred last evening’at Nelson of Mr George Cooper McNabb, after a short illness. Deceased resided for the greater part of his life on the West Coast, only recently movino- to Motueka. He is survived.by his wife, four sons Messrs J. F. McNabb (Marsden),' G. D. McNabb (Greymouth), C. P. McNabb (Hunterville), and W. N. . McNabb (Motueka); also two brothers Messrs Frank and Alex (Christchurch), and four sisters, Mesdames W. Howard (Dunollie), J. Fensom (Karamea),- R. Elford (Motueka) and J. Simpson (Karamea) to mourn his loss.

The death has occurred at Dunedin of Mr. Charles Percy M. Butterworth, son of the founder of the firm of Butterworth Bros., Ltd., who carried, on business as warehousemen for many years. Born at Dunedin in 1865, he was educated at Cheltenham College, England, and was brought up td the soft goods trade in the London office of the firm, and, in Dunedin in on the death of his father he becafne managing director of the company. In his younger days he took a keen interest in sport, especially athletics, rowing, and golf. He was very’ well known in business circles throughout the Dominion. ■

A vote of condolence was passed with the relatives of the late Couiit cillor A. H. Paterson, at last evenings meeting. of the Greymouth Borough Council. The Mayor, Mr F.’ Al Kitcffi ingham, in referring to the parsing of their former fellow Councillor, said that as a Councillor the iStfefCi? Paterson had shown excellent judgment on many matters and had hiade a great sacrifice in time and labour in the interests of the community. It was a keen and heartfelt loss 'Vh’dl had fallen on every one of them? was decided to place on record the deep appreciation of the Council pi the services rendered by the late CT, Paterson during his 45 years service on the Council. - : ■

The death occurred last evening at Christchurch of Robert Baird Tennent, son of Mr and Mrs J. Tenneiit of Greymouth. The late Mr Tenneht; who was born in Greymouth 34 yeafs ago, took, during his lifetime a keen interest in the work of St. John's Presbyterian Church and in musical circles on the West Coast. He Was secretary of St. John’s Bible'Class since its inception and although hav* ing taken up residence in Hokitika about two years ago his work was' carried on until quite recently. Mr Tennent was also organist of "St John's Church for a number of years and the keen interest he took in this work was shown by the fact that he held the position of organist at St; John’s Church, Greymouth a period after taking up residence in Hokitika; and journeying to Greymouth'twice weekly to assist at the organ. The late Mr Tennent was also a Past Mas* i ter and organist of Pacific Lodge, Hdkitika and was a member of the-Ho--1 kitika Kilwinning Royal Arch Chap- '• ter, and a member and organist of the • Greymouth Masonic Lodge, as Well as being a Past Arch- of the Star wf the West Lodge, U.A.O.D. Deceased is survived by his parents, and ' bhe ’ brother, William, alpo ' four sisters, Mrs L. F., Anderson, Misses Marion; Belle, and Molly Tennent, all? of Greymouth. The funeral takes place at Karoro Cmetery on Sunday afternoon. .
