FRIENDLY NATIONS
“Reynolds” reveals that financial interests are trying to dictate the internal policy of New Zealand’s Labour Government before a loan can be raised in the City of London. At the same time, Parliament passes a Bill which authorises credits to the total amount of £60,000,000 for orders from friendly foreign nations, mainly for armaments and munitions. Some of these Governments are semi-Fascist dictatorships. After the folly of British leadership has allowed the destruction of our natural allies, democratic Spain and Czechoslovakia, we have to seek our allies where we can. But if the British taxpayer is to poui- out millions in unconditional credits to arm the anti-aggression bloc, the taxpayer will demand that a democratic people’s Government in New Zealand shall not be sabotaged by the financial oligarchy that rules in London. Parliament must ask whether New Zealand is excluded from the 'definition of a friendly nation! It‘must insist that the Government give full support to New Zealand in resisting any attempt to dictate dominion policy from banking boardrooms. —“Cooperative News,” 22nd. July.
