The Buenos Aires representative of the United Press of America states that the British Embassy officially confirms the sinking of a vessel named Olinda. No further details have been received. ' (Received September 5, 11.55 p.m.) • MONTEVIDEO (Uruguay), September 5. It proves to have been the British cruiser “Ajax,” which shelled and sank the German freighter Olinda. The Olinda was bound -for Hamburg with cereals and canned meat. The “Ajax” ordered the master and crew of the vessel to take to the boats. Then she sank the Olinda. This is the first enemy vessel to. be destroyed since the outbreak of hostilities. ‘ The crew of the Olinda have been taken to Montevideo. , '
