It is reported in Rome that Colonel Beck late to-day-informed the Polish Ambassadors in all European capitals that Poland will fight before granting the German It is understood that the British efforts to Induce Poland to compromise have sb‘far been rejected. All men in Gdynia ancj all Poles from Gdynia who live in Danzig have been called to the colours. The exodus of the people from Warsaw has . begun. International trains were stopped at the frontier and the carriages shunted back to preserve the rolling stock. A run has begun on the savings bank. Shopkeepers hoarding goods are being sent to concentration camps. As the result of a ban on alcohol the inhabitants of Warsaw have at last realised the gravity of the situation. They rushed the shops, causing long queues. There is a shortage of bacon, butter-fats, tea, and sugar, already apparent, partly because of the failure of supplies to arrive at the capital in consequence of the congestion of the roads.
