STOP “WAR JITTERS”

Australian Feeling NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT ADVOCATED. (Received June 21, 11.10 p.m.) SYDNEY, June 21. Sir Norman Nock, Lord Mayor of Sydney, replied to-day to the statement yesterday at Melbourne of the Prime Minister Hon. R. B. Menzies, who expressed surprise that business men suffered from “war jitters. Sir N. Nock said that the responsibility was upon the Commonwealth Government, which was repeatedly appealing, particularly to business people, to conserve their resources for possible events. There also were threats of increased taxation for war purposes. The Australian people, added Sir N. Nock, were influenced by these war scares. They were looking to the Commonwealth Government to ease their fears by a bold policy that would ensure continued employment and the steady development of the country s resources.
