Constable L. P. Ricketts left last evening for Christchurch. Mr Peter Daly, of Dunedin, is at present on a visit to the West Coast. Rev. Father T. Cahill has left on return to Christchurch. Miss Doreen Thomson left on Saturday on return to Gore. Mrs M. Muirhead of Christchurch, who has been on a visit to Greymoutn, returned on Saturday. .Mrs D. D. Metge, of Wellington, is on a holiday visit to. her parents, Mr and Mrs J. Kyle, Runanga. Mrs W. Armstrong, accompanied by her daughter, Miss Joan Armstrong, left for Auckland on Saturday.

Mrs N. E. Knox, of Wellington, is the guest of Mr and Mrs J. Kyle, Runanga.

Mr and Mrs A. Blocksage returned on Saturday from a holiday visit to fchristchurch and Timaru.

Mrs R. Mettrick of Beckenham, Christchurch, is at present visiting Hokitika.

Mr J. Kirby, Railways Department, Hokitika, leaves to-day on transfer to Dunedin.

Mr Bernard Ward has been re-ap-pointed a member of the Westland Land Board for a term of two years.

The Minister of Public Works (Mr. Semple) will visit Westport on March 28, to take part in the demonstration of land-clearing machinery.

Passengers by Cook Strait Airways West Coast service on Saturday were: Wellington-Greymouth Mrs J. McGibbon and child, Mr C. Braidwood. Miss Gladys Connolly, Timaru, and Miss Mabel McDowell, Ashburton, who have been visiting Greymouth on holiday, will leave on return to-day. M. Turner. The funeral of the late Mr Jiames Braidwood, Franklin Street, took place at Karoro Cemetery yesterday afternoon. The service at the graveside was conducted by Rev. Father A. Gregory. There were numerous floral tributes. The pallbearers were Messrs W. Green and A. Barrow (members of the Oddfellows’ Lodge), Mitchell, G. Shaw, C. Hickman, and A. E. Prince.

The death occurred at Greymouth on. Saturday evening, after a lengthy illness, of Alfred James Phillips, agtd 59 years. Deceased was a native of Leeds, England, and came to New Zealand 35 years ago, and resided at Saltwater, South Westland, for a number of years. He came to Greymouth twelve months ago. Deceased is survived by three daughters, Mrs ,M. Searle, Mrs A. Williams, and Miss Zena Phillips, all of Greymouth. The funeral will leave Cowper Street this afternoon for the Karoro Cemetery. The interment will be private.

Mrs E. McDonnell, who leaves next week on a holiday visit to Europe accompanied by her son and daughter, was the guest of honour at a pleasant function in Revington’s lounge on Saturday afternoon when members of the Greymouth Red Cross Society entertained her. A beautiful shoulder spray was handed to her, and the chairman, Mrs A. H. McKane paid a warm tribute to the excellence of her work as secretary of the Society, expressing the hope that she would resume her activities on returning to Greymouth. Mrs McKane, asked Mrs McDonnell’s acceptance of a beautiful leather handbag and with Mrs James O’Brien and Miss Moffatt (Matron of the Grey Hospital), extended good wishes for a pleasant voyage and safe return. Miss Mfcffatt also outlined the interest being taken by the nursing profession in the work of the auxiliary nurses. Mrs McDonnell suitably replied. During the afternoon an elocution item was given by Miss Vonnie McDonnell and a competition was held. Afternoon tea concluded a pleasant function.
