JUSTICES OF THE PEACE

CONFERENCE OPENS TO-DAY. TIMARU. March 13. About 60 remits have been forwarded for consideration by the Federation of New Zealand Justices of the Peace at its annual conference, which will take place in Timaru this week, starting to-morrow. They include some that have been considered previously, and it is likely that others which have not been placed on the agenda paper will also be discussed. The year has been a successful one, the report says, two new associations having been affiliated since the previous conference, and two others are expected to join shortly. Membership has increased considerably, and it is hoped that when the conference starts 90 pei’ cent, of all justices will be members. It is hoped that in 1940 a conference between New Zealand and Australian justices will be held in Wellington. Delegates will be given a civic reception by the Mayor (Mr W. G. Tweedy).
