Dainty Sue: Dainty Sue, who will be doing her future, racing in open class, has been engaged for middle-distance events at the Manawatu meeting. According to her owner, . Mr C. Boyle, she has done wellasince her success at the Wellington meeting in October. Listed to Run: It was reported after Feilding that Little Dorritt and Chere Arnie were likely to be off the scene for some time owing to troubles, but they are hoth listed among the Manawaut’ entries.

At Woodville: The Auckland jo.ckeys H. N. Wiggins, s L. Dulie.u, and R. W. McTavish. will, be riding at . the Woodville Jockey; Club’s . Summer meeting ,to-day and Monday. H. Nj Wiggins’s mounts

will include Submission, Dynasty, Entail and Icing.

Peerless In- . Peerless’s name was omitted in error from the final payments for tae Great Northern Derby, and she may yet go north for the two final days at Ellerslie after racing in the Manawatu Cup, as there is over a week between these races.

Quadroon: Quadroon has been accorded a nomination for the Manawatu Cup, but n is understood that he will contest the Auckland Cup unless there is a likelihood of the going at Ellerslie being hard.

Tidewaiter: The holiday plans for ffidewaitex and Surmount are apparently not yet definite, as both horses were entered for events at the Manawatu meet, ing on Monday evening.

Woodville Riders: Riding engagements announced for Woodville include: —W. J. Broughton, Mahaanui, Viracious, Twenty Grand, Pen; W. J. McDowell, Porotiti; J. Chaplin, Chevychase; S. Anderson. Thrasos, Duncannon: W. E- Pine. Otaki.

Plans for Coronation: The only three-year-old engaged m the Auckland Cup is Coronation, who is to contest the middle-weight hack events at the Woodville meeting, and much will depend on his showing there whether he will contest the, two-mile event at Ellerslie on Boxing Day. By Limond from Jewel of Asia, Coronation has been given every opportunity to develop, and his connections have hopes of him proving a stayer.

Lines of Pretty Lass: Pretty Lass, who was recently successful at the Feilding meeting at onlv her third outing to date, will probably do her holiday racing in the Taranaki district, where she is trained. On her two efforts at Feuding she should not be long in adding to her account. Pretty Lass, who is a three-year-old dark bay filly by the Tea Tray horse Kiosk, is not in the Stud Book, for which she is not eligible for admission; but in some recent reports she has. erroneously been credited as being descended from the imported mare Shebeen 11, the grandam of Tavern Knight, Wild Time, and others. Pretty Lass’s dam, Lucky Lass, who never raced, was a 1923 mare by Tree Lucqrne from Fluke, a 1910 mare by Vladimir from Barmaid, an 1899 mare, by Handsome Jack, from an unnamed mare by Barbarian. Barmaid raced a few times about- the Manawatu about 30 'years ago, and she was winner .for •Mr W. J. Tucker at Woodville in 1905. Fluke had a race or two without winning, and other progeny by Barmaid, including Vice Consul and Longmaid iwere. not worth racing. Lucky Lass, prior to leaving Pretty Lass, produced Lucrece, who has been of no account, • and Gitana Lass, who has still to race. The confusion of pedigree apparently arose from the fact that Shebeen II . left a mare who. was named Barmaid. Pretty Lass is owned by Mr J. A. McKenna, of Patea, who bred her from Lucky Lass, and she is trained ct Hawera by H. H Mills. Gitana Lass, a four-year-old ! full-sister to Pretty Lass, was leased by Mr McKenna last month to Mr W. Porter,- so apparently, she also s is to be raced shortly.

Anopheles: , L. <J. Ellis will have th? mount on 'Anopheles in the Great Northern foal Stakes. Majority: » In view of his form last season ii was a surprise to find Majorifi' T ll '-" ing from the. .field, .for fhe Railway l Handicap. He may 'ho .seen out at the Taranaki Christmas meeting. Wotan’s Full-Sister: A youngster who will come in for a good deal of attention if produced at the Woodville meeting is the stillunnamed fillv bv Siegfried from e , thus a full-sister to the Melbourne Gup winner Wotan and a half-sister to those other’ splendid stagers, Came Carrington and Peter Jackson. She has been in Ahe care of H. Dulieu at New Plymouth for some time, and according to reports she has shaped well in her training. However, it is possible that she may require a little time before being seen at her best.

Engaged at Woodville: ; More than average interest will centre in the, Bolton Memorial Handicap. the chief event on the first dav o’f the Woodville Jockey Club’s Summer meeting to-day by reason of the fact that the entries include no less than four horses who are engager

in the Auckland Cup. They are The Buzzer, The: Bigot, Happy Landing, and Tidewaiter. Again in the open sprint, the Oete Handicap, Quadroon and Padishah are down to compete. II is some years since such a repre sentative lot of stayers have been nominated for a provincial meeting. Sale of Happy Memory: Happy Memory (by Magnus--Re-trospect) has been sold by the Clifford trustees to C. C. McCarthy, act ing for Mr Delaney, of Invercargill, where the gelding will in future he trained. Hororata Races: The weather promises to be fine for to-day’s races at Hororata, and the track will be fast. All the Riccarton horses engaged, except Improvident, wh 0 is suffering from a bruis”d foot, will make the trip. Riding engagements are: 'G. Ridgway, Lofty; A. E. Ellis. Spartan, Manethb, Chateau Briand; D. O’Conner, Potent; L. J. Ellis, Real Lady, Garonne, R Caddy, Leaderette; M. Caddy. Great Baby, Bit o’ Blue, Rebel Chief, A. Parsons, Chanteur, Wine Card, The Duel, Lady Middleham; A. Messervy. Golden Chest, Dividend; C. Wilson, Boniilon, Ladv Rosette, Roy Bun, Rebel Queen; C. Eastwood. Pnl Roger, Roko Hik.a; H. Hibberd, Ryetown, Tantivy, Financiere, Dracula; G Humhpries, Gay Parade; A. Stokes Kilrobe; J. McCauley, Skyrena, Alby; F Smith, Plumage; J. Johnson. Passenger; G. Watson, Argentic, La Plata. Kumara R.C.:

As usual the Kumara Racine Club will race on Easter Monday, despite many rumours to the contrary. The club has disposed of its sheep, and at a meeting of the committee it. decided to paint the grandstand and other buildings.

Westland R.C. Handicaps: Handicaps for tho Westland R.C. meeting on December 28, are due to appear on Tuesday next. The club has received good nominations, and can confidents look forward to a mofst s/uccessful meeting. Nominations close on Friday next Decembei 16. Boomerang Out: Boomerang was scatched at 1 p.m. on Tuesday for all engagements nt the Auckland RC. meeting. Engaged: .A C. Messervy has been engaged to ride Knight of Australia in the Auckland Cup. Tracks Affected: As a result of the recent heavy rains, track work has been retared at Omoto, where about ten horses are in training in preparation for forthcoming meetings on the West Coast circuit.

Trotting Notes Blair Athol's Record: Blair Athol, second to Gallant Knight at New Brighton on Saturday, has been second or third. 14 times since his last win. Broke When Leading: Indian. Scout began well in the open-

ing event at New Brighton, soon settling down, in third place. He was in the lead at the mile post ,and his prospects looked good, but a break at the half-mile put him out of the contest. King’s Play: In the Mace Memorial Handicap King’s PUy did not finish as well as he did in Jhis Addington engagements. After a- siow beginning he travelled Jas.L4n take the lead nearly five furT’Songs from home, and this evidently told on him over the last hundred yards. He was beaten into third place.. Half-brother to Pilot Peter: Nelson Eddy,. • who outstayed the dual-gaited gelding Gentleman Joe in the Wainoni Handicap at New Brighton, is a three-year-old half-brother to Pilot Peter. He made his first appearance in the Riccarton Stakes at Addington last month, and, although on the lusty side, won decisively. He was third at. Ashburton a week ago, and his record for three starts i s two wins and a. third. Nelson Eddy is trained by D. McKendry for Mr P. J. Andrew who bred the colt.

In Tightest Classes: The American horse Gallant Knight has taken longer than was expected to reach “Cup” class, but his form this season has been good, and he appears to race kindiv for J. Brve«. jun. who has handled him m recent, races. Gallant Knight won the £750 Canter-

bury Handicap on Cup Day, and he was fourth in the sensational finish in the event on the second day of the fixture. His easy victory at New Brighton on Saturday qualified him for the tightest classes on the calendar. M. Stewart’s Team: M. Stewart, who took up training in Auckland after serving a long apprenticeship in "Canterbury stables, has taken over a property at Te Rapa, where tracks are being formed. Stewart has 18 horses under his care. Recent additions to his team include Tommy McElwyn, True Trust, Bayard, and Civic. Three-year-old Test: Although Aidershot proved in the Derby his superiority over all other three-year-olds opposed to him it cannot be said that he has been thoroughly tested by the best of his age. Tn the Champion Stakes at Ashburton, however, he will be given his proper test. In the New Zealand Derby, which he won so decisively, Aidershot did not have the opposition of Shadowson, or Bedrock, who won the New Zealand Sapling Stakes. In this race Bedrock fairly outstayed Aidershot, but while the latter may have improved a good deal Bedrock has not raced since. Shado\Vson has won two races, and is a grand pacer, while another in the field is Nelson Eddy, who has shown-his ability on both clay and grass tracks. The Champion Stakes will provide the first meeting between what are regarded as the best four-three-year-olds of the year. The race will provide a proper test of three-year-old supremacy. SALE OF PAPYRUS. LONDON, December 8. The world-famous racehorse, I’.-pv-rus, who was once Insured £75.000, was sold at Newmarket for 750 -guineas. The horse has earned £90,000 in stud fees.
