At the Grey County Council meeting last evening, Mr J. Higgins, the Engineer, pointed out that grants totalling £6750 had been made for the Grey Valley-Maruia road, and he had been given to understand that the men were now being employed in the Inangahua County on another road. He thought the council should protest against money not being spent on the road for which it was granted. He read a letter he had written to Hon. P. C. Webb, and Mr Webb’s reply i’l which he said he would make representations to the Minister of Public Works. Nothing was being done oh the road, said Mr Higgins, and he had visited Christchurch to interview Mr Webb who had promised that the matter would be gone into immediately. He had also asked for some authorities and these had come to hand the next day, but he had heard nothing of the other matter. Cr.J. Ryall suggested that the Engineer be instructed to interview 'Mr Webb during -his visit next week. In reply to Cr. Carter, the Engineer said 'that it was rumoured that the 'money 'was being spent on the road in Inangahua County. On the motion of Crs Mulcare and Blair it was decided that the Minister of Public Works be requested to expend the money already voted on the road during the current year.
