An Official Wireless stated that the King left Buckingham Palace on Tuesday for Sandringham, where he will spend a week shooting. The Queen is remaining in London.

A London cablegram stated that the Duke and Duchess of Kent will arrive in Australia either in the last week in October or the first week in November next year.

Fell, who has been minister at St. John’s Presbyterian Church, Greymouth, for the past nine years,’ has had extended to him a call from the Kent Terrace Presbyterian Church, Wellington, one of the three large Presbyterian churches in the city. The death occurred at Invercargill on Sunday night of John Alfred Sloss, eldest son of Mrs. E. Sloss, and the late Mr. A. J. Sloss, of Greymouth Deceased, who was a native of Nelson and aged 35 years, served his apprenticeship in the Dispatch Foundry, Greymouth. Later, he joined the Railways Department, and was transferred to Invercargill about ten years ago. He is survived 'by his wife, and three young children; also his mother, three sisters, Mesdames MqCullam, Hayhurst (Nelson) and McNabb. (Collingwood), - and two brothers, James and Albert (Greymouth). The funeral took place at Invercargill on Tuesday afternoon.

The death occurred last evening of Mrs Johanna Carruthers, wife of Mr John Carruthers, of Buccleugh Street, Greymouth. The deceased, who had been for some time ailing, was 62 years of age, and was a native of Hobart, Tasmania, having come to Greymouth as a child with her parents, the late Mr and Mrs William Dargan, in the year 1878 since when she had been a resident of this town. She .leaves a family of two daughters, Mesdames T. Gallagher (Greymouth) and L. Stutdridge (Christchurch), and three sons, Nicholas (Christchurch), Leo and Eugene (Greymouth). She is also survived by two brothers, Messrs Frank Dargan (Wellington) and Thomas Dargan (Greymouth). The funeral will take place on Saturday, leaving her late residence at 2 p.m. for St. Patrick’s '

' Messrs W. G. Ashby (Greymouth), : and H. K. Drummond (Inangahua Junction), will leave on Thursday next ’ for Auckland, en route to London by uthe “Rangitata” on December 15, to take up positions as pilots in the Royal Air Force. They will be farewelled at a social and dance at Herb Moore’s Cabaret, this evening. Messrs Ashby and Drummond have the distinction of being the first West Coasters to secure a short service commission as pilots in the Royal Air Force. ’Mr Ashby was educated at the Grey Main and Greymouth Technical High School, and served his apprenticeship as a motor mechanic at Messrs T. B. Baty Ltd., Greymouth. He is also a member of the Greymouth Aero Club, and is the holder of an “A” and “A” Endorsed Pilot’s License. He is also a prominent tennis player and a member of the Greymouth Club. Mr Drummond was educated at the Reefton District High School, and has been employed as a civil engineering surveyor for the Public Works Department at Greymouth and Hokitika.' He is also a keen sport and is a member of the Greymouth Aero Club, holding an “A” and “A” Endorsed Pilot’s License.
