Racing Notes

Thrasos: Thrasos, a Feilding winner, is a handsome’son of the Australian sire, Thracian, from the PsychologyFlora McDonald mare Pythia, who did her early racing in New Zealand in the colours of the late Mr. F. J. Nathan, who also had interests in Australia. At Rangitikei he had failed to handle the turns and although he was able to secure a handy .place early on this, occasion, it was not till he was headed for home that he put in his real claim. Although Thrasos won really well, Old Bill was undoubtedly unlucky, for after a smart beginning he lost his place and had to come from some distance back over the last two furlongs. Padishah:

After a few days’ holiday, Padishah is on the Hastings tracks, looking all the better for his trip to the South Island. He is being kept up to the collar as his owner-trainer, Mr. J. Hennah, has decided to . essay the Auckland Cup again. In the autumn, Padishah, in all probability, will be taken to Melbourne for the Australian Hurdle Race and the distance, three miles and a quarter, should suit him. Still Name Them Imas:

t Some years ago many horses raced in the Dominion by Mr. J. J. Corry carried the prefix of Ima to their names. One of these was the RomebImaribbon mare Imarosebud, who was a winner at Trentham and shortly afterwards was sold to go to Perth, where she was further successful. On going to the stud in Western Australia, Imarosebud was mated with Agrion, a winner of the New Zealand Derby, who is now one of the leading sires in that State, and -her first offspring, a colt, was named Imaking. Imaking was a failure as a two and three-year-old, but he reappeared as a gelding at the recent W.A.T.C. Meeting, where he won the Busselton Handicap, of one mile, beating a large field.

Baran: The Foal Stakes and Royal Stakes may not see Baran in action. His trainer, J. H. Jefferd, wishes him to have every chance, with a race or two in the autumn, and then a thorough preparation for the Australian Derby. The other Bulandshar' colt in Jefferd’s stable, Indian Sun, a halfbrother to the Mitchelson Cup and Avondale Cup winner, Solarium, has recovered from complaints that have prevented him racing this season. He will race at Woodville and the Ellerslie summer meeting. Spelling: Nora Gregor is being given a spell. Derby Possibility: Hag'en in some quarters is selected as the likely winner of the Great Northern Derby, for which race he is being prepared. Wotan: Wotan will not race again until the Auckland Cup. He thrives on a very light preparation, with little galloping. It is probable that he will be ridden at Ellerslie by the stable apprentice, G. P. Dowrick, who was successful on him at Feilding, and who rides him in all his work. Wotan is a natural stayer, and in his best form will have to be considered at Auckland, but, like all true stayers, he will need the race run at a sound pace all the way. Ruatiti:

Mr. W. McA. Duncan has a promising maiden in Ruatiti, a member of his one-time brilliant and successful Tamatpte-Tukia family. Ruatiti is a big chestnut gelding by Limond from Ohui, sister to Tamatete and Tukia, and when he learns to handle himself properly he will win races. Clessamor:

Clessamor has always been a useful horse, but his form at Feilding was the best he has ever shown, for the class was good. He should get some money during the holidays. Lady Ina: Track watchers at Awapuni were prepared for a forward showing by Lady Ina, and she produced it on the second day at Feilding; but She was up against hot company. Still, it was indicative of some money during the holiday racing. Corroboree: Corroboree’s two thirds at Feilding will soon be improved upon. His stable companion, Old Bill, is putting up a consistent record of seconds, but his turn is due. He is a solid customer, and after his displays at Feilding he will no doubt be taken to Ellerslie at Christmas. Novice Hurdler for North: I. Linguist, in the charge of S. Barr has been shipped to the North Island 1 to race at Otaki on Saturday and at Woodville next week. A. Leach will ride her in her hurdle engagements. Linguist has shown promising form as a hurdler, and should she race well at Otaki and Woodville, she will prob ably remain in the northfor the Taranaki and Stratford holiday meetings.

A Gisborne Success: Blonde Princess, a winner at Ellerslie is a stablemate of Sly Fox, in the Gisborne stable of A. Mclntosh, and is by Hunting Song from Fair Queen. By The Ace: There are not many horses by The Ace racing in New but an occasional winner makes an appearance. Kenneth Robert, a winner at Ellerslie on Saturday, is an aged gelding by The Ace from Elsie Aroha by Elysian. He is trained at Avondale by H. Goldfinch, who rode him on Saturday. Sire's First Winner: Globe Trotter, winner of the Feilding Juvenile Stakes on Saturday, was bred by his owner, Mr W. Higgins, of Wellington, and is by Safari from Sight Draft, by Paper... Money from Gazeworthy, dam of Noteworthy. Safari is an eight-year-old horse by Duke Foote from Quaid Glass by Traquair, and was bought as a yearling in Australia by Mr Higgins for 300 guineas. He was raced in New Zealand, but had a short career owing to meeting with an accident. Mrs J. Campbell, of Riccarton, is at present training two fillies by Safari for Mr Higgins, one being from Joy Princess by Chief Ruler from Deborah by Martion, and the other from Bee Acre by Acre Deborah. They are solidly built youngsters, and are being given plenty of time.

In Australia: At the Perth meeting on November 14, Cloudy Range, by Wrack—Ayr, won the Victoria Handicap, of 13 furlongs, his mile rate being 2miv 14Asec. On the same day Royal Douiton, by Jack Potts—-Quality, won the South Australian Handicap of 13 furlongs at a mile rate of 2min 15“ sec. At the Elphin meeting in Victoria on November 12, the November Handicap was won by Jean Logan by Globe Derby —Belle Logan, a sister to Logan Derby. Solid Efforts: Tritoma was responsible for two solid performances, at Forbury Park On the first day he did not get a good passage, and with a clear run from the top of the straight, would have been closer up than fourth. On the second day he was the pacemaker all the way to the straight, and finished up a good third to Jovial, and Sentiment. The Frank Dewey gelding looks well, and he may come into his own at some of the Southland holiday meetings.

I .A Useful Trotte’r: , Although he was narrowly beaten 'in the Roslyn Handicap on the first ‘ day of the Forbury Park meeting, Dalaruan was not disgraced as he made all the pace and only succumbed to the winner’s challenge over the last bit. The last half-mile was run in lmin 6sec, and he did not put a foot wrong. He was not j for the second day, and a good chance was ; missed of gaining some money. Logan Derby: i Logan Derby is booked to sail from Bluff on Monday, but before leaving New Zealand he will pace an exhibition mile at the Wairio Trotting Club’s non-totalisator meeting on Saturday. His presence will give the meeting a big boost. I Footloose Impressive: , Although he might have been a hit lucky to win the Hokio Hack Handicap at Levin, Footloose was responsible for. a very pleasing performance, as he was having. his first race since last April. Consistency has been a feature of his racing to date, a s he has been out of the money at only his first and fifth races in ten starts to

When racing as a two-year-old last season, Footloose was a colt, but during his spell he was gelded, though he still appears as sexed in the race card. He is a fine big stamp of horse, and he is by the Australian-bred Limelight stallion Illumination out of the Hallowmas —lona mare Onward, wno was winner of several races for Mr A. M. Zimmerman, of New Plymouth, a decade, or so ago. Mr Zimmerman sold Onward but later bought her back, and he bred Footloose from her and is racing the gelding, who is being trained by H. Dulieu.
