BLOOD TEST

DOES NOT PROVE PATERNITY. LONDON, May 20. To-day, for the first time in England, a blood test was used to determine a question of paternity. A single girl at Marlborough, in Wiltshire, took action against a man for the maintenance of her baby.

The girl swore in the witness box that the man was the father of the child.

Dr. Roche Lynch, Home Office Analyst, was called by the defence. He gave evidence that he had taken samples of the blood of the alleged father and also of the baby.

The result showed that it was nor. possible forlhe man to have been the child’s father. He said that such tests were infallible, and in reply to searching cross-examination assured the court that paternity by the accused man was definitely excluded.
