POWER BOARD ELECTION

Auckland Results CITIZENS TICKET RETURNED. I Per Press Association.! AUCKLAND, May 26. Eleven Citizens’ Committee candidates, and one Labour won seats at the Auckland Electric Power Board election yesterday, when approxi mately 40,000 votes were cast in a moderately heavy poll. This was the first election held under the extended franchise. Mr S. J. Harbutt, the retiring chairman, topped the poll with 22,433, and each successful candidate polled over 20,000. The others elected are: Messrs H. T. Goldie, J. Park, W. J. Campbell, S. I. Crookes, E. H. Potter, J Dempsey, M. J. Bennett, C. J. Lovegrove, S. W. House, F. W. Waters (all Citizens) and J. Sayegh (Labour) The twelfth seat remained in doubt until 1 a.m., Mr W. A. Donald (Citizens) closely challenging Mr Sayegh. Nine sitting members sought reelection. All except one, Hon. T. Bloodworth, were returned. 8000 PUT OFF ROLLS Approximately 8000 names which appeared on the rolls for the recent, elections in the city had been removed from the rolls before Wednesdays election lor the Power Board. A large number of names has been removed from rolls in addition to the city rolls but the exact total has not been an nounced. The names of ratepayer* whose rates were in arrears were de leted, and in the case of a husband with rates in arrears the disqualification also applied to his wife. Simi larly, if a wife is the ratepayer, and her rates are in arrears, the disquali-. fication applied to her husband. This necessitated a very careful cheek by the election officials, as in many cases names of husband and wife did not immediately follow on the roll in that order. A heavy pen alty is liable if a person should knowingly and wilfully make a false statement.
