iOur Own Correspondent.] HOKITIKA, April 27. At the meeting of local householders, the following school committee was last evening elected: —Messrs A. C. Armstrong, W. E. Richards, H. W. R. Sweney, J. W. Lawrence, A. Leslie, R. Redder, E. R. Ferguson and Basil King. Only eight were nominated, for nine seats. A vote of thanks was passed to retiring members, Messrs J. Conning (Secretary), W. H. Shannon and J. J. Breeze, special mention being made of the 14 years of service as Secretary given by Mr Conning. Mr Armstrong was elected chairman. The resignation of Miss M. Parlane was received, another appointment having been obtained. A letter of appreciation of her services as, assistant teacher at the high school is to be forwarded. The stationmaster wrote that the expected traffic would not warrant a rail-car running to and from Ross on Thursday mornings. It was resolved to approach the Education Board on the matter. The Treasurer’s report showed the year started with a credit balance of £7 odd, and the year ended with a credit balance of £44. ' There were twelve householders present at Kokatahi, the following being elected a committee:—Messrs N. Harris, C. Marshall, Leo Stopforth, W. Weiblitz and M. Wallace (chairman). At Arahura, there was a small attendance, a committee of four being elected— Messrs L. Clark, J. Finch, J. Havill, junr., and D. Muir, leaving one more to be elected. Only five—were present at Woodstock, and the old committee were re-elected: —J. Carson, J. Griffiths, E. J. Wells, W. Willoughby and R. C. Wells (Secretary). Nominations closed to-day for the Municipal Elections, the Returning Officer declared the following had been received:—Mayoralty—E. W. Heenan, G. A. Perry (sitting Mayor). Council (nine members)—D. Of the old Council, Dr. E. Teichelmann, Messrs A. J. Thompson, E. L. Park, James King are not seeking re-election. A very pretty wedding was solemnised at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Hokitika, when Wallace Francis, eldest son of Mr and Mrs F. Keen, of Hokitika, was united to Marjorie Jane, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs A. Cooper, of Te Awamutu. Rev Fr. O’Gorman performed the ceremony. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her brother, Mr Jack Cooper, looked charming in a gown of magnolia satin, cut on classical lines. The bodice was prettily rucked to give sunray effects and was fastened at the back with tiny satin buttons. The skirt fell from the waist to form a long embroidered train. Her beautifully embroidered veil was held in place with a coronet of orange blossoms. She carried a sheaf of cream flowers to tone. The bride was attended by Miss Nessy Keen (sister of the bridegroom), wearing a reddingote of salmon pink lace over satin beaute. Her headdress was a hat of silk velvet with a tulle brim and velvet shoes to tone. She carried a bouquet of pink flowers. The duties of best man were carried out by Mr Claude Lincoln. The bride left the church to the strains of the Wedding March. The reception was held at Preston’s Tea Rooms, where the bride’s aunt, Mrs J. Cameron, received the guests wearing a navy blue ensemble and carrying a posy ot

autumn tinted flowers. She was assisted by the bridegroom’s mother. Mrs Keen, who wore a navy blue costume and carried a posy of red carnations. The happy couple left later by car on their honeymoon, the bride travelling in a frock of London tay crepe cloque, with accessories to tone. She wore a fur stole, the gift of the bridegroom. Mr and Mrs W. Keen will reside in Hokitika.

The wedding was celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, Rimu, of Ellen Magdalene, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Alf Dale of Woodstock, to Arthur Samuel Hyndman, of Rimu. The Rev. Father Joyce performed the ceremony. Mr A. Dale escorted his daughter, who wore a magnolia lace redingote over matching satin, opening out to show a row of tiny satin buttons. From the waist at the back the lace skirt swept into a fan-shaped train. Her long embroidered tulle veil was attached to a halo of tulle and a coronet of orange blossom, and fell to form a second train. She carried a beautiful shower bouquet. The bride was attended by her sister, Miss. Mary Dale, who wore a frock of green lace which flaired from the knees into a number of frills of two shades of mauve tulle, and finished with a girdle of mauve satin. The bodice featured a Peter Pan collar, with a row of buttons down the centre back. Short puff' sleeves trimmed with tiny mauve tulle frills. Her shoulder length veil and halo head-dress was of green pleated tulle and contrasting flowers. She also carried a beautiful shower bouquet. Mr Jack Hyndman (brother of the bridegroom) was best man. The reception was held at Preston’s Tea Rooms, where Mrs Dale received the relatives. For travelling, the bride chose a navy tailored costume. With this she wore a cream satin waistcoat, navy model hat, fur stole, and accessories to match. The happy couple later left for Christchurch and Timaru.

For the clean-up period ending April 24, 249.7 ozs. of gold were recovered by the Rimu Flat dredge, in 124 hours 22 minutes, from 52,920 yards of material treated.

The nominations for the County Council close at noon on Friday. So far there Is little information available as to new candidates. It is not expected that there will be opposition to the present members of the Northern Hading. For the Central Rading, the three present members are nominated, with the rumour of a fourth candidate, while in the Southern Riding three at least of the present members will again be candidates, with prospects of a couple of more southern residents also aspiring to a seat cn the Council.

For the first time here, the meeting of householders to elect a school committee could not muster nine persons to act last night, and from 21 persons present, only eight seats were filled, and of those chosen, two were not present.

The football season opens on Saturday, with senior games. There is bound to be a number of defections from last year’s senior ranks, but these will give younger placers their opportunity to show their ability.
