MILK RUMPUS

QUALITY OR ELECTIONEERING 7 AUCKLAND, March 11. A declaration by the chairman of the Auckland Milk Council, Mr I. J. Goldstine, that he was going to take a strong stand to prevent the Council being used as a political weapon led to a dramatic and heated discussion at to-day’s meeting. Election methods, amounting to be-hind-the-scenes manipulation, were alleged, and strenuous defences were given. The climax came when the chairman suggested that the two City Council consumer representatives, Messrs N. V. Douglas and E. F./Andrews, should resign. In the course of the discussion, Mr Andrews said that the North Shore consumers were absolutely dissatisfied with the condition of the milk delivered to them,

The chairman said that the City

Council representatives were showing unusual concern for consumers, and he wondered whether this had anything to do with the election in May. Mr Douglas denied that he had the May election in view when he supported the resolution moved by Mr Andrews in connection with the consumers’ interests. He definitely had no intention of resigning.
