Racing Notes

Silver Ring: Silver Ring left GVeymouth last evening for Trentham, to fulfil engagements at the Wellington Racing Club’s meeting. The gelding worked well again at Omoto yesterday morning, and has satisfied his connections by the progress he has made. No ridei- has yet been engaged for him for the Thompson Handicap and the Challenge Stakes.

Tybalt: Tybalt made a forward showing in the Franklin Cup last Saturday and, as this was his first outing since Christmas, he should be improved with the race. Tybalt figures on the minimum in the Ohinemuri Cup and should be worthy of consideration. Smart Performance:

One of the most attractive efforts registered at Pukekohe was that of Bronze Wing in the maiden event. He was solidly backed, an indication that the success was anticipated, and despite the fact that the Bronze Eagle gelding did not have the best of passages he won very easily. He was slow out of the barrier and tailed the big bunch for the first furlong and when he moved up he had to cover extra ground. He got to the front inside the distance and then literally walked in. On this showing he should not be long in winning again.

Broughton’s Mounts: W. J. Broughton will be riding at Opunake to-day, and he has been engaged for Taitoru, St. Cedric, Trilitha and Student Prince. Fast Time: ?

If Regular Bachelor’s time for sixfurlongs at Flemington on Saturday last was 1 min-. 9* secs., as cabled, it was only an Australian record, as Silver Scorn’s Australian and New Zealand figures are 1 min. 9 2-5 secs., made at Riccarton, in 1933. Usual Pilot:

Royal Chief will be ridden in the New Zealand St. Ledger Stakes, at Trentham next week by his usual pilot, L. J. Ellis. He will be accompanied north by his stablemate, Studley Royal, who will have the services of his Dunedin Cup rider, H. W. Hibberd, in the Thompson Handicap. Allmetic:

Allmetic, who was sent out favourite at Napier Park last Saturday, and is next engaged among the maidens at Carterton, is a five-year-old gelding by Mimetic from the Day Comet mare, All Day, dam also of the jumper, Evermore. Riders for Opunake:

Riding engagements for the Opunake meeting to-'day include:—C. G. Goulsbro’, Dancing Lady, Gold Glare (Maiden), Fafner (Juvenile); A. E. Bennet, Clessamor, Ripple; G. P. Dowrick, Life Guard; J. Mclnally, Race Call; S, T. Edwards, Notium, Naughty Marietta, Captain Bligh; C. Cole, Royal Fire, Narrator; W. J. Broughi'ton, Taitoru, St. Cedric (Juvenile); L. Monkley, Amoroso, Cytos; A. Fryer, Ruling Lady, Wee Ethel, Tomoana; J. Tonkie, Lucrece; R. Beale, Book Law. Scarf Dance:

Scarf Dance, one of the beaten lot in the Trial Plate at Bulls, is a three-year-old sister to Veilmond. She had luck against her last week-end, and should win a race very soon. Scarf Dance is from one of the distinguished Koatanui families, and no doubt is destined for Mr. G. M. Currie’s stud. She is by Limond from Veil. Veil was by Absurd from Cowl, dam of Rational, The Monk, Lady Isinglass, Mask, Curtain, Habit and The Masquerader. Additional Riders:

Laggard is to be ridden by S. Anderson, and J. McCauley may take the mount on Lustral, to-day. As A. Jenkins will probably be required for Lady Siegfried, another rider will have to be found for Camilla Horn. W. Doyle has an additional mount on Lucullus Lad in the Cup, and L. J. Ellis may ride Impersonater at some pounds over-weight in the Wairarapa Cup. A. E. Bennet’s mounts at Opunake are Clessamor and Glenthawn.
