The death occurred at Greymouth yesterday morning, of Alexander Edmund Brook, aged nine years, only son of Mr and Mrs T. Brook of Blackball. Deceased had been ill for the past three weeks, and was a grandson of the late Mr and Mrs T. Outram, of Blackball. The funeral will take place at the Blackball Cemetery to-morrow. Lord Charles Dormer, fifteenth Baron Dormer, arrived at Auckland by the Rangitiki from London on Saturday, to spend a month touring the Dominion by motor-car. Lord Dormer was in the same regiment as the Governor-General (Viscount Galway), and for part of his visit he will be the guest of his Excellency. Lord Dormer, who is aged 24, is one of the comparatively few Roman Catholic peers, and he expressed considerable interest in the coming centenary celebrations of the Catholic Church in New Zealand. The death took place at the Grey Hospital yesterday afternoon, after some months’ illness, of Mrs. Isabella Collins, wife of Mr. T. J. Collins, of Carroll Street, Runanga. Deceased who was born in Workington, Cumberland, England, 73 years ago, came to Runanga with her husband about 12 years ago. Besides her husband she leaves two sons, William (Hamilton) and Bert (Nelson), also one daughter, Mrs. J. Reynolds (Runanga). The funeral will leave the residence of Mrs. Reynolds, Seddon Terrace, Runanga, to-morrow afternoon for Katoro Cemetery. The death at Auckland on Saturday of Mr Matthew Guthrie, of Epsom, removes a former well-knowq resident of the West Coast. The late Mr Guthrie was for many years an engine-driver on the Grey-Brunner line. He was a member of St. Patticks Choir, and was well-known as a concert artist of great merit. He retired from the Railways Department 20 years ago. A Justice of the Peace, he was also President of the Auckland Superannuated Servants’ Association, and choirmaster of the Sacred Heart Choir, Ponsonby. He was a native of Melbourne, 78 years of age, and leaves his wife and one daughter (Mrs Randolph Abbott). The death occurred on Friday evening at Toowoomba, Queensland of Rt. Rev. Dr. James Byrne, Bishop of Toowoomba. Dr. Byrne who was 67 years of age, had been Bishop of Toowoomba for nine years. Born in County Tipperary, he was ordained as a priest in 1896 and ministered in Brisbane for over twenty years. He was administrator at St. Stephen’s; Cathedral for twelve years and Vicar General and parish priest of Ipswich from 1917 to 1929. He was appointed Domestic Prelate to the Pope in 1922 and was consecrated as the first Bishop of Toowoomba in 1929. He had been in ill health for the past two years. The late Bishop Byrne who was the uncle of Rev. Fathers J. and E. Joyce, had a number of relatives on the West Coast. The late Bishop last visited New Zealand for the celebration of the golden jubilee of the late Most Rev. Archbishop Redwood, of Wellington in 1924.
