Furtill's Title: Hubert Turtill, the brilliant New Zealand sprint champion, has won the half mile sprint championship of Australia. In doing so, he beat some of the best Continental riders. Turtill is returning to the Dominion at Easter to compete at a two-day sports meeting at Otorohanga in the North Island. Track Meeting: The Greymouth Cycling Club have commenced their Wednesday evening meetings at Victoria Park. The fields have been large and the racing keen. »■»*«*** Improved Standard: The standard of West Coast cycling has made a great improvement in the past season. The times are exceptionally fast and the fields have also increased in number, there being many novice riders competing. ******* The Younger Brigade: G. Bennett is the pick of the junior riders. As he gains experience he will reach the winning class in the senior events. Shrives and Fisher are two good juniors who have the ability, but have a lot to learn yet. Benrtett, a young, well builr rider, has failed to produce his best form this year. He is a good stayer and this, combined with a fast sprint, gives much promise. * * * * * * Showing Improvement: D. Clark’s track performances up to the present have been very dis- 1 appointing, but his performances on Wednesdays show a great improvement this season. ****** Has Disappointed: M. Sheldon showed great promise in the season’s early road races, but so far on the track he has not given his usual display at all. • »»»**• Staging Comeback: J. Daniel, once the Club’s besi short distance rider, is going to stage a come-back. Daniel was very fast over the last 220 yards which carried him to many victories. Scratch Men Fit: D. A. Morland and P. Duffy, arc both lit. The former is a good stayer and has an exceptionally fast sprint and improves with every ride. Duffy, who is in his prime, is a solid rider and can be always relied on for a first class performance. Fixtures:—l3th. February, Karoro road race; 24th., Track events A. and P. Show; • 19th.
