COMPANY DIRECTOR Gaoled For Forgery [Per Press Association]. WELLINGTON, February 11. A sentence to reformative detention not exceeding two and a half years, was imposed in the Supreme Court by Mr Justice Blair on Hannath Noel Blake Marshall, 36, a salesman, who was found guilty of four charges of forgery, four charges of uttering, and eight charges of obtaining cheques by false pretences from the New Zealand Guarantee Corporation Ltd., in his capacity as secretary and director of National Motors, Limited. ATTEMPTED RAPE. DUNEDIN, February 11. FALSE PRETENCES IN GEELONG (Received February 11, 10.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, February 11. David Scroggie, aged 47, of Auckland, was sentenced in the Geelong Court to-day for false pretences. The Magistrate asked the police to see whether there were any means by which the man could oe sent back to New Zealand. He added that, otherwise, Victorians would be paying to keep in gaol a man who had only been out of a New Zealand gaol for one month. Scroggie admitted that he has had twenty-three convictions in New Zea land for false pretences. Evidence was given that he 'represented himself as being an agent for an advertising firm, and that he collected £1 4s each from two Geelong firms. Scroggie said that he was known as “The Wizard from the North.”
