BACKED FOR £5,000

A Melbourne book-maker visiting Sydney for the Anniversary racing at Randwick laid £5,000 against Ajax and Elanage for the Newmarket and Australian Cup. Ajax is a stayer as well as a sprinter. Derbies (I- miles) in 1937, and won the Lloyd Stakes at Flemington last November, equalling the Australasian mile record of Peter Pan and Sarcherie, 1.35 L His autumn mission embraces the Futurity, and possibly the Newmarket, provided he is reasonably weighted.
