The weather forecast (based on observations at 15.00 hours on Wednesday) is as follows: — General situation: While an anticyclone lies to the north, a series of westerly depressions of moderate intensity continues to cross the Dominion. Forecast: Moderate to strong westerly winds, reaching gale force in some exposed positions south of New Plymouth and Castlepoint, and backing at times to south-westerly in places. Seas (N.Z. waters): Rather rough south of Cape Egmont and about Cook and Foveaux Straits; elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to fresh winds between west and southwest prevailing; seas moderate to rather rough. Weather for the most part fair in the eastern areas, but changeable generally, and with scattered rains, more especially in the districts with a west-, erly aspect, and in the southern portion of the South Island.
