CANADIAN TEAMS. BOXERS £ND WR'-oTLERJ [Aus. & N.Z. Cable As3n.l VANCOUVER, December 13. Seventeen swimmers, eight boxers, and seven wrestlers will sail on December 24 for the Sydney Empire Games. The boxers are Joseph Gagnon, Billy Brade, Harry Hurst, Rex Carey, Tommy Osborne, James Curley, Norman. Dawson and Gaston Eichel. The wrestlers are Terry Evans, jack Whelan, Vernon Blake, Larry, Clark, Morgan Plumb, Harry Peace, and Edward Ferguson. N.Z. CYCLISTS. WELLINGTON, December 13. At a special meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association to-night, the Secretary, Mr C. V. Aldridge, announced that the selection of the track team for the Empire Games had been approved . A resolution was passed stating that the council desired to inform its affiliated clubs and the riders selected, that the final selection rested in tne hands of the New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association. DOMINION TRIALS. [Per Press Association], WELLINGTON, December 12. • The Empire Games trials were held before 6000 spectators at the Basin Reserve. Results were:— 100 yards—G. Quinn (Hawke’s BayPoverty Bay) 1, W. J Fitzsimmons (Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay) 2, G. C. Gordon (Canterbury) 3. Time, lOsec. Leslie sent ten competitors away to a perfect start. At halfway Fitzsimmons, Quinn and Sutherland were in front. Quinn made a burst to the front at 75 yards and won by nearly two yards from Fitzsimmons and Gordon, who had come up fast in the con clouding stages. The time, lOsec, equalled the winning time of the past Empire -Games. Fitzsimmons, national champion, stumbled at 75 yards where he hit a bump. Women’s High Jump.—Miss B. Forbes (Otago), sft (Bin, 1; Miss J. Sharp (Wellington), 4ft 43in. 2; Miss G. Chase (Wellington), 4ft OSin, 3. Miss Forbes broke her own New Zealand record by l-Bim Women’s 100 yards.—Miss D. Lumley (Auckland) 1, Mrs. V. Rollerson (West Coast, N. 1.) 2, Miss D. Strachan (Canterbury) 3. Time—ll l-ssec, equalling the Dominion record. Miss Doreen Lumley, runner-up in 'the women’s sport championship last season, led all the way to score an ’ effortless win from Mrs. Rollerson, formerly of Auckland, who just shaded Miss Strachan. The time, 11 1-5 sec, equalled the New Zealand record. The winner was never extended and returned a time 3-10 sec. better than the Empire Games winning time. 880 yards.—V. P. Boot (Canterbury) 1, T. Allen (Otago) 2, C. W. Bell (Auckland) 3. Time—l min 59 l-ssec.

The first lap was covered at a slow gait, Boot taking the lead at the furlong, Allen, New Zealand title-holder went to the front at 440 yards and led Bell and Boot. With 220 yards to go, turning for the straight entrance. Boot and Allen were clear of the field and in a‘fine sprint home, Boot lasted best to win by three yards in Imin 59 l-ssec, a slow time for a trial. Boot dictated the running and won impressively. 120 yards Hurdles. —F. Sharpley (Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay) 1, P. T. Bowie (Auckland) 2, C. R. Bradwell (Canterbury) 3. Time—lssec. In the first heat Bowie equalled the New Zealand record with a time of 15 1-5 sec, and in the second heat Sharpley ran 15sec. Bowie the national hurling champion, won the first heat in 15 l-ssec, equalling the New Zealand record, but immediately afterwards, Frank Sharpley broke the record by running 15sec. This is 1-5 better than the last Empire Games winning time. In the final Sharpley and Bowie both hit the first hurdle, but Sharpley held a narrow lead at 80 yards. Then Bowie came level and exciting hurdling saw the men finish almost together, the verdict going to Sharplei' in 15sec. As Sharpley knocked down several hurdles his 120 yards record may not be allowed. 220 yards—G. Quinn (Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay), 1, J. Ford (Wellington) 2, C. Robinson (Wellington) 3, J. D. Carmichael (Canterbury) 4. Time —22 4-ssec. The first heat Fitzsimmons won in 23 2-ssec, and Quinn won the second heat in 23sec. Fitzsimmons tired badly in the final. Fitzsimmons and Rob-

inson had a rare duel in the first heat of the 220 yards Fitzsimmons winning narrowly in 23 2-ssec. In the second heat, Quinn had no trouble to qualify for the final, beating Ford (Wellington) and Carmichael in 23 sec. Quinn repeated his form of the 100 yards to win by two yards from Ford and Robinson, both of Wellington.

One mile. —T. Allen (Otago) 1, V. P. Boot (Canterbury) 2, A. J. Wade (Auckland) 3. Time—4min 31 4-ssec. Matthews did not start in the one mile in which Boot, Allen, Black and Wade were the only starters. Allen (Otago) took a prominent part in this race, although Boot was the leader for 1320 yards. Then Wade and Allen went to the front at 1600 yards Allen gained a five-yards lead from Wade and Boot, and although Boot managed to beat Wade he had no chance of catching Allen, who won by five yards in 4min 31 4-ssec. } High Jump.—H. Wilkins (Canterbury) and G. Hunter (Wellington), sft. B?in., equal, 1; Vernon (Wellington) and E. Phillips (Hawke’s BayPoverty Bay), sft. 63in., equal, .3. 90 Yards Women’s Hurdles.—Final: Miss R. Tong (Hawke’s Bay-Pov-erty Bay) 1, Miss E. Munro (Auckland) 2, Miss M. Nelligan (Auckland) 3. Time—l3sec.

Miss Rona Tong, who was fancied for the 90 yards hurdles, hit the first hurdle and fell, the heat being won by Miss Nelligan, an ex-Canterbury competitor, in 15 l-ssec. Miss Tong was allowed to start in the second heat and after holding Miss Monro to the last hurdle faltered to. get second place in 13 3-ssec. In the final she won in the smart time of 13sec.
