[Per Press Association.] WANGANUI. December 14. Bernard Francis Corrigan was lined £lOO by Mr. Salmon. S.M.. for keeping premises as a common gam-ing-house. Vincent Hickey, for assisting, was lined £25. DUNEDIN, December 14. Wilfred Richard John Curry was charged in the Police Court with the attempted murder of a young woman at Saddle Hill, on November 29. He was further remanded till December 22, the police stating that the woman is still in hospital. CHRISTCHURCH. December 13. At the Lyttelton Magistrate's Court to-day, before Mr. F. F. Reid, S.M., Aden Chinnell Shirley, aged 23 years, a bootmaker, was convicted and fined £l5 and ordered to pay costs £2 2s for being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-car on Saturday night. His license was cancelled and endorsed, and he was prohibited from obtaining a license until December 1, 1938. Before Mr. P. Grant. J.P- and Mr. G. Pollock, J.P., on a charge of being found drunk in charge of a car in Shearman Street. Waimate, John Simmons, aged 48 years, a farmer (Mr. W. Boland) was convicted and fined £lO, and his driver’s license was suspended to the end of its term. WELLINGTON, December 14. Two boys, 13 and 10 respectively, who were placed in a home a week ago as a result of breaking into Woolworths Willis Street shop and committing a great deal of damage as well as taking goods, left the home on Friday and again broke into the same shop. Besides committing theft, they broke some‘articles, but did not damage the goods to any great extent. They attempted to break into another place. On the following day, after staying, out all night, they were found by their father and returned to the home. The Magistrate (Mr Stilwell) said that, had it been within his power, he would have committed them to Borstal. where they would be under very close restraint, but they were still under the care of the State, and they would be returned to the care- of the Child Welfare Department, with the direction that they should’be ” placed in separate homes.
