ARMAMENT RACE
ALL ON TOP GEAR. (Received December 14, 11 p.m.) GENEVA, December 14. The expenditure on armaments throughout the world in 1937 reached a record total of 2,400 million sterling, according to the League’s armaments year book. The previous record was in 1936, and was 2,016 millions. A total of 8,500 thousand men are permanently under arms, compared with six millions in 1913. The arms budgets do not include a huge expenditure on semi-military organisations.
