Mont d'Or: Mont d’Or ran two good races at Hororata on Saturday, and his young trainer, A. Fairbairn, was rewarded ■ with a first and a second. Mont d’Or ■ is a useful sort, and although he is six years old and has just lost his maiden status, he may win another race or two during the holiday racing. He comes from a good family, being by Rey de Oro from Bundura, vyho was by Harold Dillon from the imported mare Bonny Jenny. Bundura, a very successful race mare when trained by C. S. Smith some years ago left another useful pacer in Agile. One Whetu: One Whetu is getting _ through plenty of pace work and, if present , intentions are adhered to, he is to race at New Plymouth and Stratford > during the holidays. Knight of Australia: A horse that should not lack stamina and therefore should have . more than an outside chance of winr ning the Auckland Cup with only 7.2 is Knight of Australia, whose per- ’ formances during the past twelve ‘ months have been very sound without calling for any special mention. ’ The one thing that may stand against' ' him is that he is now in his tenth 1 year. j A Coast Possibility: Lisnacrce is a hard filly to hold in 3 the early part of her races, and took

a lot out of herself fighting with her apprentice rider on Saturday. NotI withstanding this, she ran a good race I for a mile, and her prospects of winning races on the West Coast circuit for her owner, Miss M. C. Wilson, of Reefton, look bright. The Musketoon filly has yet to earn something towards the 35 guineas paid for her as a yearling. Frieseland: The Auckland Cup candidate Friesland is going on pleasingly in his preparation for the big event. During the past week he has been working the reverse way and gives every indication of handling the right-handed way capably. In one of his gallops t he finished strongly over five furlongs > on the plough in Imin 21sec, and in - another he galloped six furlongs on i the course proper in Imin 22sec.
