CORONATION STAMPS

£175,000 WORTH SOLD. The New Zealand Post Office joined with the .rest of the Empire in making a special issue, of stamps to mark the Coronation of King George VI., these being placed on sale on May 13th. There was a considerable demand from overseas, this being principally due to the keen desire of regular collectors to obtain complete sets of the Coronation stamps of the Empire. To do so they had to secure no fewer than fifty-seven sets including those of Britain, the Dominions and all the British Protectorates. New Zealand’s business has been expanding repidl.v this year in line with the general improvement in business activity and this, of course, is the main reason for the excellent business done in Coronation stamps, the sales of which to Aueust 31st have totalled in value nearly £175,000. At no time during the currency of the Coronation issue has there been difficulty in purchasing any of the three denominations, namely, Id., 2jd., and 6d., Empire collectors baipg thus relieved so far as New Zealand is concerned of the difficulty experienced through at least one Crown Colony running out of supplies. However, it is intended to completely with draw the Coronation issue on December 31st next, replacing it with Id. (Kiwi), 2Jd. (Mount Cook), and 6d. (Harvesting Scene). a(d oiC kc2&:oe dcste
