FITNESS AT WHEEL
SOME SIMPLE PRECAUTIONS. The following “ tips” are given to constant drivers, and for long-dis-tance trips,, for keeping lit and healthy:— Don’t slump in the seat, as this causes the back to become tired and to ache. Don’t grip the wheel too tightly or hold the body tense. This produces nerve strain and may cause you to halter when quick action is required. Be attentive yet relaxed while driving.
Avoid eye-strain. Don’t stare ahead, but get the eyes accustomed to an easy, restful position. Drive slowly over rough roads. Relax when taking the bumps, as injury may be caused by hitting the roof while sitting stiffly uprignt. Have foot pedals adjusted to a comfortable position so as to avoid stretching or straining legs to operate them. Take rest intervals to avoid fatigue. Maintain a steady driving pace and avoid spurts at high speed. Eat sparingly while driving particularly in hot weather. Fruit juices and plenty of water, cool but not ice cold are beneficial.
Caution is necessary in ‘drinking from roadside springs. All water is not good water, and. much goodlooking water would be safer boiled.
