GERMAN DOCTORS

MELBOURNE, August .14. The High Court listed for hearing an appeal by the Victorian Medical Board against a decision of Mr Justice Lowe, of the Victorian Supreme Court, ruling that Dr. Moritz Meyer, a German, had the right to practise in Victoria, and the hearing of Dr. Meyer’s motion to have rescinded the leave to appeal granted to the board. In an affidavit, Dr. Meyer, who sought rescission of the order for special leave to appeal, said that as a result of being prevented from practising in Australia he had exhausted a large part of the capital which he brought with him. Dr. Moritz, it was stated at a previous application, had to leave Germany because of Nazi influences. He was prevented from practising as a doctor in the British Empire, and to overcome this took short courses at Edinburgh 'and Glasgow universities. He was then granted the right of practice, not in the United Kingdom, but in the British Dominions. He applied to the Victorian Medical Board for registration as a legally qualified medical practitioner and was refused. He then applied to the Supreme Court of Victoria, and Mr Justice Lowe reversed the decision of the Medical Board. It is against Mr Justice Lowe’s decision that the Board has been granted leave to-appeal. .
