SEDDON MEDAL

NEW REGULATIONS. Subsequent on the decision not to hold examinations for the Certificate of Proficiency in the future, the Trustees of the ‘Seddon Memorial Medal have found it necessary to alter the regulations governing the award of the medals, as these were awarded on the recommendation of the Senior Inspector of Schools and were based on the result of the Proficiency examination. The fresh regulations are as follows: — . (a> Two gold medals of equal intrinsic value shall be provided each year one for the most proficient gill and one for the most proficient boy attending any public school or registered private school vyithin the Grey educational district (old boundaries). (b) The medals shall be awarded to the girl and boy respectively who gain the highest aggregate number of marks in a competitive examination to be conducted in Greymouth in the month of October or the month ot November in each year. The subjects shall include: English (including composition), Formal Grammar, Writing and Spelling, Arithmetic as described in the Public Schools Syllabus of Instructions for Standard VI. The examination shall be for a duration of three hours. (c) All children under the age of 13 years on the first day of December in the year in which the examination is held and not previously having been successful, shah be eligible for the Seddon Memorial Medal. (d) The names and ages of all intending competitors must be forwarded to the District Public Trustee at Greymouth not later than the Ist. day of October in each year. (e) No medal shall be awarded before satisfactory proof of age has been furnished.
