Miss Cecilia Keating a former pupil of the Convent of Mercy, Greymouth and the holder of an Exhibition from New Zealand to the Royal Co.lege of Music for violin playing, has received the gratifying news that her scholarship has been extended for another year, until July, 19ob. In the list, of last term’s awards Miss Keating’s name appeared as the winner of a prize of £7 for excellence. This student has also made her debut at the college as a singer, doing a group of German songs? and her performance received very high praise. She was one of eight students chosen from the college by Dr. Malcolm Sargent to sing a semi-chorus in the Albert Hall during a performance of Elgar’s “The Apostles.” The Royal Choral Society performed the work. When it was time for the chorus of the angels there was a pause, and at this interval the octet from the Royal College was introduced. In it Miss Keating was first soprano, and she found it a wonderful thrill to sing in that vast hall, which holds 10,000 people. The violin, of course, is her chief study, and she recently played at a reception for overseas Visitors at the Overseas Club. Mrs. and Miss Keating were guests at the first garden party at Buckingham Palace.
