Yesterday’s Results KEEN COMPETITION. Yesterday was the first day of the Eisteddfod and a large number of classes were disposed of. Throughout the competition was keen, and great interest was shown. The attendance at the day sessions was not very large and could be improved upon. Last evening was an improvement on the day session, and it is up to the public to give the competitions the utmost support they fully warrant, and to-day there will be varied programmes at the Town and Trinity Halls and first class entertainment will be available. The following are yesterday’s awards in the various classes:— MORNING SESSION. Highland Fling, Novice (Final)— Daphne Goodall 75 pts. 1; Elsie Clark 73 pts. 2; Bernie Roper 69 pts. 3rd. Mr. Davies said that the selection of songs in most cases in this class class were very poor indeed. I here were excellent songs that could be availed of and competitors should choose a bettei- type. He quite understood that the competitors were beginners. The winner sang very nicely and sang the best technically. Her voice was undeveloped but her singing was charming. T’he second placed competitor had a very good voice, but her interpretation of the song was quite incorrect. She had nice production and very good tone. However, he would not choose a sacred solo for selection in this class.
