HILLSIDE HOUSE
COLLAPSE KILLS OCCUPANTS NEW YORK, August 12. Eighteen to twenty-one were killed, and three were seriously injured, following the collapse of a high wooden dwelling on a hillside. The foundations were undermined during a thunderstorm, when a sewer backed up eight feet of water against the building. The occupants sensed disaster, but were unable to quit the building, and called for the police rescue squad. A policeman entered by means of a ladder, but immediately afterwards the structure collapsed.
