A cablegram from Paris stated that Princess Marie of Bourbon, niece of ex-King Alfonso, will marry Prince August Czartorisky, on August 16, at Lausanne.

Mr Hugh Smith,_ the New Zealand poet, has been seriously ill, and has been confined to his bed at the residence of Mr R. Heslop. Reef ton, with severe bronchial trouble. It is, however, pleasing to state that he is safely on the way to recovery.

The funeral of the late Miss Teresa O’Donnell took place yesterday morning. Requiem Mass was celebrated at ..St. Patrick’s Church by Rev. Father fj. Holohan, and Very Rev. Father J. Long conducted the service at the gpaveside at Karoro Cemetery, assisted by Rev. Father Holohan.

The death occurred on Wednesday at Christchurch of Mr William Alexander Rumbold, after a long illness. He was born at Motueka, and educated at Nelson College, starting his teaching career at the sole-charge school at Wangapeka (Nelson), and later at the school at Kongahui. He was assistant master at the Nelson Boys’ Central School, before becoming headmaster at Granity and Millerton in succession. For several years he was headmaster of the Reefton District High School, and in 1922 he was appointed to the Sydenham School, a position he held until his retirement recently.

Dr. Louis E. C. Dapples, President of the Nestle and Anglo-Swiss Holding Co., Limited, of Wevey, Switzerland, and Principal of the Nestle organisation and its subsidiaiies throughout the world, died on Saturday last at Genoa, Italy, in his 69th year Dr. Dapples (who joined tlv Board of the Nestle Company in 1922) was a prominent banker, in which sphere he was widely known on both the Continent and in the United States of America. In 1927 he was elected President of the Nestle and Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk Company, holding that position until his death. Dr. Dapples was a much travelled man, visiting Australia m the course of a world tour several years ago, and was the recipient of many honours conferred upon him by his country, chief of which was the Diploma of Honoris Causa of the University of Lausanne.
