WRESTLING

1 THE GAME IN AUSTRALIA. SYDNEY, August 3. ■ Attendance at Leichhardt on Saturday night was one of the best of ! the year. Fans saw a great match, (comments the “Labour Daily” critic) ’ and I believe Christie staged his best ; effort in Australia. Mclntyre made ' many new friends. Tne Oklahoma Scot believes he won. He was annoy- ' ed on Saturday night, but had changed his outlook yesterday. ' Mclntyre must now be considered 1 for matches with Forsgren, Don Noj land and Sammy Stein. The Scot conj tinues to try and perfect new holds. Don has proved one of the big sur.1 prises of the season. Vic. Christie will probably return to America via the East The collegiate bonecrusher has received offers of matches at Manila, Shanghai and Hongkong. Christie and his wife are keen to travel. The youth hopes to make England his headquarters for a time next winter. Hungarian Sandor Vary, who arrived on Saturday, is a fine-looking athlete. Vary was brought to America by Jack Curley, and featured in New York bouts. The European became a great favourite and drew tremenous houses at Madison Square Garden. Owing to the immigration laws Vary had to leave. He must keep out of America for six months. The Hungarian told me on Saturday night that he intended to remain in Australia until the end of the summer. Dr. Mackenzie is only a junior heavyweight and was too small to wrestle Noland. Forsgren, Chief Little Woolf and Co. Mackenzie, talks of exploiting the wrestling field in the Philippines. Jack Forsgren was connected with the, Vancouver (8.C.) fire brigade ror some time. The Canadian intends to give the local brigade a look-over during the week. Denny Dusek, Dr. Gordan Mackenzie and Jack Clarke leave to day. Kopack, Wade and Dusek are to work in New Zealand. Kopack called to see me at the week-end. Joe hopes to return at the end of the year. Kopack has been eight months in Australia, and there is not the slightest doubt that he helped to popularise the sport. Joe will always be wel- • come. He is always fit, is willing to ; wrestle anyone at any time, and it is in his favour that he has figured in ' the biggest houses of the year. Glen Wade .unfortunately didn’t . make very much money in Australia. Somehow or other Wade did not . “click.” He suffered very few reverses. I hope he has a successful stay in New Zealand. ! Dick Lean, manager of Melbourne ; Stadium, and big chief of Stadiums ( Ltd., is in town. Lean has been pack- ’ ing in crowds of 10,000 in recent bouts at- the West Melbourne Stadium. Hal Rumberg, who is to make his Australian debut in Melbourne on Saturday night, is the best golfer among the present American team. Rumberg plays off the six mark. Hal j is built something like Christie. He is . a very smooth worker. j
