IQur Own Correspondent] Magistrate's Court 1 WESTPORT, August 12. Before Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M., yesterday, J. Lucas for allowing cows to stray on Westport-Cape Foulwind highways was £1 and 10s costs. C. M. O’Neill was lined £1 and costs 12s for allowing two jersey bulls to stray at Fairdown. For allowing a cow to stray in Russell Street, J. McManus was fined £1 and costs 10s. J. Hazeldine was fined 10s and 10s costs for operating a car without a warrant of fitness. A local publican was lined £2 with 10s costs for selling liquorafter hours. A country publican was convicted for selling liquor afterhours and was fined £2 with 10s costs. First offenders found on licensed premises after hours were lined 5s and costs 10s. A second offender was fined 15s and costs 10s. Donald L. Crossan was fined £2 and 10s costs for stealing ropfing iron to the value of 10s from the pakihis experimental plots. Crossan admitted the offence, but considered the iron was of no use to anyone and had taken it. A Westport nublican was charged with opening, exposing and selling liquor afterhours and also for permitting drunkenness on the premises. The barman was charged with being a person other than the licensee of selling liquor after hours and supplying liquor to a person already intoxicated. In respect to the latter charges the barman was fined 30s and costs on bota charges. The Magistrate reserved his decision on the charges against the licensee. Tjrree men found on the premises were recognised by the Magistrate to be boarders, but four others, including three Greymouth visitors were convicted and fined 5s and 10s costs.

Hospital Radio Fund: The following additional donations to the Hospital Radio Fund are acknowledged: Technical Old Girls Backetball Club, £1 Is; Kawatiri Lodge £1 Is, proceeds woollen jersey £9 10s; previously acknowledged £212 3s; total £223 15s.
