AMERICAN INTERVIEW

Impressions of Trade and Industry lAust. & N.Z. Cable Assn.] (Received August 11, 5.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON. August 10. The New Zealand Minister of Labour, Hon. H. T. Armstrong, was interviewed here by the Australian Associated Press. Mr. Armstrong said that he is investigating industrial relationships and management during his visit to the United States and Canada, and he will continue the discussions of a New Zealand-American Trade Treaty. At Washington, Mr. Armstrong will consult various Federal Ministers, particularly Miss Perkins (Secretary for Labour). He has also arranged for an interview with Mr. Lewis, the head of the C. 1.0. Movement. Mr. Armstrong remarked: “The unhappy relationships between Labour and Capital, which I have already seen in New York, seem lamentable.” , He feels that the New Zealand Conciliation and Arbitration illustrate theii’ own strongest justification. Mr. Armstrong stated ne is convinced that seasonal exchanges of dairy products and of fruits would provide an excellent beginning for a mutually satisfactory New Zealand and American Trade Treaty, and he plans to pursue inquiries along those lines. He also expected to study the mass production methods in Detroit, and feels that much can be learned from America, despite the unhappy labour relationships. He is sailing for New Zealand by the Aorangi.
