The Alberta Legislature adopted the Bankers’ Control Bill demanding that the bankers shall be licensed by August 27. The House was then prorogued. LARGE FIRM CLOSING DOWN. (Received August 8, 7.30 p.m.) EDMONTON, August 7. Calgary Brokers, Limited, the largest firm of its kind in Alberta, announces that it is closing. The firm is predicting business stagnation as a result of Mr Aberhart’s legislation. i Fifty employees have been dismiss- ; ed. BANKERS' HOPES. THAT ACT WILL BE QUASHED. EDMONTON, August 7. The bankers will delay complying with the Act, pending the probability of the Federal Government at Ottawa disallowing the Act. A message from Ottawa says that the Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. W. L. McKenzie King) declared: “When the legislation reaches the capital, we will consider what action to take.” Minister Dismissed BY MR ABERHART. (Received August 8, 7 p.m.) EDMONTON, August 7. The Premier of Alberta (Mr Aberhart) has dismissed the AttorneyGeneral, Mr J. W. Flugill, and is taking over the portfolio himself. Mr Hugill is the fourth Minister to be dismissed by the Premier in two years. \ CONSERVATIVE LEADER. RESIGNATION NOT ACCEPTED. (Received August 8, 6.30 p.m.) OTTAWA, August 7. The National Conservative Party Convention refused to accept the Rt Hon. R. B. Bennett’s resignation, and he has consented to continue as leader of the party.
