ATTEMPTED SUICIDE

IN WIFE'S PRESENCE. TEAWAMUTU, August 7. Walter Smith, aged 24, married, a rabbiter, was removed to a private hospital this evening in a critical condition, as the result of a selfinflicted gunshot wound in the forehead. He entered the cab of a motor truck, and, after a few minutes conversation with his wife, who was standing beside the vehicle, he loaded his rifle and pointed it to his forehead.
