WEDDINGS

WALTON—deADY. The marriage was celebrated at the Durham Street Methodist Church of Allan Herbert, youngest son of the late Mr and Mrs W. Walton, Greymouth, and Muriel Agnes, second daughter of Mrs A. Dryden, Christchurch. Rev. A. O. Harris performed the ceremony. The bride, who was escorted by her uncle, Mr W. Bernhard, wore a gown of ivory chenille velvet. Her tulle veil, which was appliqued with satin flowers, fell from a halo of orange blossom. She carried a bouquet of freesias and pale pink cyclamen. The bridesmaids, Misses Eileen deAdy (sister of the bride), and Gwen Wadley, Wellington, were dressed alike in simple gowns of blush pink ring velvet. They wore halos of flowers and carried bouquets of sweetpeas and carnations. Little Mary Olsen (niece of the bridegroom) was flower-girl, Tony Ellis being page boy. Mr M. Olsen, Greymouth, was best man, and Mr J. Dryden was groomsman. Mrs A. Dryden received the guests at a reception held at Dixieland. For travelling, the bride wore a frock of brown sheer wool, with gold satin collar and horizontal tucking for its only trimming. Her smart hat to tone, had an eye-veil.

WOOLHOUSE—GAB ITES. On Thursday afternoon, a pretty wedding was celebrated at the Church of Christ, Hokitika, when Betty Gabites, niece of Mr and Mrs W. Houston, Hokitika, was married to Alexander Kitchener, youngest son of Mr and Mrs J. Woolhouse, of Kanieri. The ceremony was performed by Pastor H. Cave. The bride, who was escorted by her uncle, looked charming in a gown of ivory satin, draped simply, the sash falling from the waistline to form a short train, the' bodice having a square neckline, finished with a stand-up pleated frill forming a collar at the back. She wore her mother’s hand-embroidered veil, held in place with a coronet of orange-blos-soms, and carried a bouquet of freesias. The bridesmaid, Miss Mary Taylor, wore jade-green crinkle morocain, with square neckline and basque at the waist. An ivory ring-velvet cape with mittens to tone completed the ensemble. She carried violets and primroses with head and neckline sprays. The flower-girl, Ruth Houston (cousin of the bride), wore daffodil crepe-de-chine. Mr Massey Woolhouse (brother of the bridegroom) was best man. After the ceremony, a reception was held at Preston’s Tea-rooms where Mrs Houston, wearing a brown tailored costume, with hat and fur to tone, and a spray of Iceland poppies, received the guests. _ Mrs J. Woolhouse, mother of the bridegroom wore a havy-blue morocain ensemble with hat and fur and a spray of cyclamen. The happy couple left for Christchurch, the bride’s travelling dress being a brown tailored suit with Russian blouse and accessories to tone.

THOMPSON —NICHOLAS. On Saturday morning at Hohonu, with Nuptial Mass, celebrated by Rev. ■Father D. Healy, the marriage was celebrated of Mary Eileen, third daughter of Mrs C. Nicholas, and the late Mr M. Nicholas, to Daniel, son of Mr and Mrs Robert Thompson, of Rotomanu. The bride was attired in a brown tailored costume, and hat and shoes to tone and carried an ivory-covered prayer book. The bride was attended by her sister, Margaret, as bridesmaid, she being neatty attired in a navy-blue tailored costume, with hat and shoes to tone. The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Alex, as best man. The bride’s mother entertained the guests at her residence, where the usual toasts were honoured. The happy couple left by car for Nelson, where the honeymoon will be spent.
