McCREADY BEATS SPELLMAN. Earl McCready added yet another victory to his long series' of successes when, before a packed house at the Greymouth Town Hall on Saturday night he defeated John Spellman by one fall to nil, in an eight-round contest. McCready secured his fall in the sixth round when he had no great difficulty in pinning his opponent with a body press. After delivering to his stone lighter opponent a series of elbow jolts, he then picked Spellman up and dumped him hard to the mat twice. McCready weighed 16st 121bs and Spellman 15st 121bs. Spellman provided the major interest by his exploitation of a good variety of holds, and he also created lively interest with his elbow jolts, drop-kicks, and strangle holds. Spellman, at the same time, was responsible for some solid wrestling. His opponent was more or less playing a waiting game. Both men applied some clever holds with effect, and some smart clearances were made and counter-holds effected. The referee was Mr A. Beban. Spellman twice applied the Indian deathlock. On the first occasion McCready cleverly changed it to a lying splits, and the gong saved Spellman. On the second occasion McCreadycountered similarly, but Spellman broke free, applying a standing splits in retaliation. Twice McCready held Spellman in a full cradle hold, but he was unable on each occasion to gain falls. Spellman worked hard on hammerlocks at various times, but McCready was always able to “take it.” In an effort to equalise in the seventh round, Spellman picked McCready up to treat him to an aeroplane spin, but his dump was not effective!

THE PRELIMINARIES. I. Johnson (9.5) beat E. Brady (9.4) by one fall to nil, secured in the 'third round. A. Panther (10.10) beat H. M. Israelson (10.11) on points after an exciting bout, in which the contestants caused much amusement with their use of elbow jolts, drop-kicks, and punching. P. Peters (9.4) beat P. Callanan (10.0) by one fall to nil. secured with a body press. The referee was Mr H. Blanchfield. Very Rough Bout LITTLE WOLF DISQUALIFIED. IN BOUT WITH RUSSIAN. GISBORNE, August 8. Kirilenko defeated Chief Little Wolf at the Opera House on Saturday by two falls to one, after a hectic seven rounds. Kirilenko scored a fall in the fourth round with' a body press, following a slam. rhe Indian evened in the sixth round with a deathlock, which he refused to let go, the referee having to break Hie men. Wolf was disqualified in the seventh when he tied the Russian’s leg in the ropes, and refused to let go. The bout was a hectic affair. The referee was in a melee in the third round, and lost his shirt. When disqualified, Wolf attacked the winner, who retaliated by chasing him with a water bottle. The ring was eventually cleared :by the police. It was a very rough bout. Little Wolf was continually warned for strangle holds and other illegalities.

COX BEATS BLOMFIELD. AUCKLAND, July 6. At the Town Hall this evening, King Kong Cox defeated “Lofty” Blomfield by two falls to one. In ihe sixth round, Cox threw Blomfield through the ropes and, while outside the ring, Blomfield punched Cox, a penalty fall being awarded to the latter. Each had previously gained a fall.
