BOROUGH COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING HELD. A't the monthly meeting uf the Greymouth Borough Council last evening there were present the Mayor, Mr W1 Meldrum and Crs. A. fl- McdCane, A. M. Carroll. d. B. Kent, G. R. Harker. I?. J. Williams and A. H. Paterson. Apologies for their absence were received from Crs. J. McGinley, 1. Bous. fridge and C. Neville. Messrs Guinness and Kiteliingham forwarded memorandum of transfer of Part M.R. 51—M. E. Bellamy Io E. R. Bellamy for consent. —Granted. The Controller of Civil Aviation forwarded license for Greymouth Aerodrome.

The Sanitary Inspector, Mr T. E. Sc'hou, requested the Council to serve a final notice on Miss J. Barry, Thompson Street, t 0 carry'out work specified in the Council’s requisition. It was decided to comply with the re. quest. The Sanitary Inspector also request, ed that a final notice be served on W. H. Herring, Doyle Street, to carry out work.

It wa s decided to draw Mr Her. ring’s attention to the fact that thf Council had given him 12 months to do the work and that t'hat period had now expired, and the Council require!? him to carry out the work. It was 1 decided to request a reply by the next meeting of the Council. The Minister lof Internal Affairs wrote, stating the Council’s position in connection with the proposal for a centennial memorial; and that it ouldi require t 0 be placed before the Provincial Centennial; Committee for a recommendation. The matter was referred to the Provincial Centennial Committee delegates for attention.

The Medical Officer of Health, Christchurch, wrote! regarding sug. gested increase in contribution to the Sanitary Inspector’s salary.—Referred to Finance Committee.

Mr D. '.Smith, Collins Street, advised that his mother, on whom a requisition had been served under the Health Act, was away in the North Island, and asked that the matter be held over.—The request was granted. Mr T, S. Willis wrote regarding flooding of his property in Collins Street,. Blakctown, by storm water.— Referred to Works Committee and Engineer with power to abate the nuis. ance *sf practicable. Mr Thomas Moseley, Bright Street, Cobden, requested permission to break down a bank on Borough land, at the rear of his' house in Ashmore Avenue, in order to assist drainage.—Referred to Works Committee with! power to act.

During the absence of Cr. F. Bous. fridge. C'r. Kent was appointed to the Works Committee in his stead. Cr. Paterson was appointed Chairman of the Outstanding Revenue Committee during C'r. Boustridge’s absence.

On the motion of Cr. McKane, it was decided' that a meeting of the Reserves Committee be called, and that an invitation be extended' to other local bodies interested, with a view to coming to some satisfactory arraragement as to the appointment of a caretaker in the interests of t'h'e Cook Strait Airways, The Greymouth Aero Club and the Greymoufh Borough Council

RESERVES committee. The Chairman (Cr. A. H. McKane) reported:—Your Committee met on' February Bth, present, the Mayor. Mr W. Meldrum and Crs. McKane (chair, man), Boustridge, Harker, Kent and Neville. The aerodrome was visited and Hie recommendation of your Committee is that a post and rail fence of' the typo ‘ilanidardised upon in the Borough, be erected at the southern end of JP'reston Road to delipc the boundary of the aerodrome there.
