Mr R Adhm. formerly of Miller, ton but now residing in Chnstchuie ’ w -is a visitor to Stockton on Fnday. . The mine worked Thursday and Friday of last week, and started again o Monday. Mr dock Campbell was a visitor t( Stockton during the week-end but 1. returning to Westport Hospital to undergo an operation on Wednesday I Brownlie left the township on Monday to receive treatment, in the Westport Hospital. , Mr D Lambert has to attend tin hospital'for further advice Mr Lambert was buried by a fall ot coal about three months ago, and is still suffering as the result of the accident. The annual meeting of the Ngakawau Medical Association will take place on March 7th in the Hector Hall. The balance-sheet and other matters of importance to the. organisation will eomc up for finalisation. Mr M. Hill, of Ngakawau, met with an accident in the mine last week, and is now under the care of Dr. F. J. Simpson Mr Hill was struck by a falling prop, necessitating his removal from the mine immediately after the accident took place. Mr and Mrs Berdinner and family returned to Stockton during the . week after an extended stay at Mokihinui. Mr Berdinner had been convalescing after an operation in the WestporHospital, but has so far recovered as to start work again. A general meeting of the Ngakawau Miners’ Union was heir; in the Stocklon Hall on Sunday, March 28th; the president, Mr F. Connew, presiding. The attendance was an improvement on the last two meetings, but there •“ still plenty of room to accommodate - hundred per cent, of the organisati m Tr-1 crest centred round the nomination* for official positions in the urion, ano also in th e nomin ition for the official positions on the Buller Central Com wittee. Both the position of president am] secretary of the union will be contested this year. -Mr F*. Connew and yr, J. Lavery are contesting the presidency. and Messrs L. Mrrganty and W. ' Battershall, the secretaryship. Messrs C. Barnes and F. Ireland are standing for the positions of scrutineers. Mr Ivor Tyler, the only nominee, is elected to the vice-presidency. Messrs R Johnstone and Winstone Rees were successful candidates to make up the full complement of the executive. For the Buller Central Committee, Mr H. L. Evans was the only nominee for the secretaryship, and Mr F. Connew tvas nominated for the president’s position. The ballot for these positions should have been finalised some time ago, but due to certain conditions obtaining at the time the nominations -were called, the Stockton Union did not call for same. The ballot will be taken on the same day as the union one, and the following have been selected to conduct same: —Stockton: Messrs D. Clark and D. Mcßean; Ngakawau: Messrs J. McFarlane, sen., and A. Nicholas. Failing either Mr McFarlane or Mr A. Nicholas, Mr J. Lake be asked to substitute. Mr J. Bennett was appointed returning officer. Members are requested to help the serutin. eers. as the ballot has to be conducted in one day.

The annual meeting of the Stockton Rugby Club will take place on Satur. day, when it will be decided whether the club will run one, two or three teams this season. The Stockton Tennis Club visited Karamea on Saturday. The weather was not too promising, but on Sunday an improvement took place and was welcomed by all outdoor enthusiasts. The Stockton tennis players had an excellent, time at Karamea, and are all talking of paying another visit to the people who were so hospitable. Weather premitting, a return will be sure to eventuate.

At Sunday’s meeting of the Stockton Union, it was decided that, after the coming pay-day, dues will be collected monthly and not fortnightly, as hitherto. This procedure is to be given a three-months ’ trial with a view of curtailing the expenses incurred in collecting fortnightly. The work is a commendable one and should receive the support of all members. Mr Ross and daughter (Mrs Drummond), of Oamaru, are spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs H. Campbell, sent - , Mr Ross has reached the age of 87 and is looking and feeling fine. The Plunket dance will take place to-night and as this is the Society’s first dance for 1937, a “bumper house’’ will help a worthy cause. All work performed for the' Plunket Society in Stockton is without remuneration of any kind. Prices have been fixed to suit all pockets. Misses Gladys Berdinner, Helen Steele and J. Jose, have all resumed their studies at the Granity High) School, and Miss Amy Evans has start-1 ed her first term.
