N.Z. COAL CONFERENCE
No Agreement MINISTER OF MINES URGES CONCILIATION. (Per Press Association.) HAMILTON, March 2. Keen disappointment that the con. ference between the coal miners’ re. presentatives and the Coal Mine Own. ers’ Association at Wellington last week had been abortive was expressed by the Minister for Mines, Hon P, C. Webb, last night. He said he felt that both sides should adopt the most reasonable attitude possible realising the magnitude of the issues in. volved, and he hoped that better counsel would prevail, so that a settlement would soon be reached. If the eoal industry was to maintain its present position in the life °f the intins ual community, it was highly essential that the utmost eo-operation between all parties should prevail. He was quite sure that the publie appreciated the arduous nature of the miners' livelihood, while, on the other hand, it must be conceded that those who lad invested capital in mines wri M entitled to a reasonable return for tb.c money_at stake.
