WAITAKI DAM
SLUICE GATES CLOSED. WELLINGTON, September 18. Waitaki dam sluice gates were ou Wednesday closed. Hon. K. Semple referred In hl’s Departmental statement to certain works regarding th<» closing of three temporary sluice gates through the dam, which could only
be done at. low water. He now stated there is still a certain amount of work to be done with concrete and grouting, but Hie critical work has been completed,, and the water which had been passing through the open portion of these temporary sluices is now completely blocked. The Minister said the past winlei had not been very suitable for work as the river had been much in flood for that period of the year, and this had made the tusk much more difficult.
