Trotting Notes Swordsman: Having his first race at Cambridge the American-bred three-yoar-old trotter Swordsman created a very fine impression by his win in the Hautapu Handicap, in which he was at a good price, mainly because his trainer did not feel very confident after see.ng the state of the track. Swordsman began well, and, except for a couple of slight lapses, gave a sound display It was his courage in ft tight finish that won the colt many admirers, and when he next starts ho will not be at such a good price. The only one seriously to trouble Swordsman at the finish was his former stable mote. Polly Pan, who trotted a great race* Swordsman is bred on the best Lues, being by the world’s champion sire Peter Volo from Lydia Lee, a daughter of Loe Axworthy from' Harvest Girl, by Walnut Hall from Noblet. Lee Axworthy is by Guy Axworthy, producer of some of the world’s fastest trotters, and took a record of 1.58} Swordsman is a “golden cross’’ production from the head lines of this world-famous breed. Racing Notes Will Do Better: Queen Nona’s second to Sebrof at Avondale was the best race she has ever run. A speedy mare, she is running on beter than'formerly and quite possibly she will do well during the winter months. Likiely Soon: Supreme Court is expected to make himself a nu'sanco in a hack race shortly. Engaged at Marton: Horowhenua is an interesting entry tor the open flat events at Marton next week. Last winter Horowhenua was in good form, winning on the concluding day of the Auckland meeting, and then taking the Whyte Handicap on the, opening day at Trenthem. His stablemate, Horotiu, is also engagod at Marton, These are the

only two Hiecarton-trained horses nominated for the meeting. Blub iTigler: Blue Tiger,, who won his first race over hurdles at Woodville, is the property of his trainer, JB. Goodman who lives at Woodville. Experience is a great asset to a jumper, put onlookers at Blue Tiger’s victory dechared that he had nothing to learn. Lyric: Lyric, the Iliad two-year-old, who was" successful at Perth on Monday, is :: full-sister to Boomerang and a haltsister to Might. She was acquired at the yearling sales January twelve months ago by Mr. I'l. Meares, of Perth for 230 guineas.

DBath of Royal Rapa: Royal Papa died at Feilding a few days' ago as the result of internal trouble.' He was bred by Air. T. C. S tnson, of Nukumarn, and was raced on lease bv his trainer, Air. I’. Holman. He was a six-year-old chestnut gelding bv Ruapapa from Lady Haze] and, while his form was moderate,. h<* will’ alwavs be remembered as the first winner of the Duke of Gloucester Cup. The lease of the gelding would have expired next Saturday. Count Claw our: Count Cavour, who holds the record for the largest amount, £18,650, won by a racehorse in New Zealand alone, is still hale and hearty in his fifteenth year on Luke Station Waipukurau. Count Cavour raced for eight seasons ■from two years to nine, ami included i n his 17 victories were the two Derbies, Great Northern St. Leger and New Zealand Cup, but the Auckland Cup eluded him. He made an assault on that prize in five successive years, being second in the first three', then fourth, then third. CORRY’S DISPERSAL SALE. P.LFNIIEIAf, May 9. The sum of 500 guineas was paid by Mr ('. A. Goodfellow, of Melbourne, for the stallion Rabbi, which was the centi'i. of interest at the dispersal salt, of Mr. J. J. Corry’s thoroughbred racehorses.
