U.S.A. Outlay CRITICISED BY SENATOR. (Aus. & N.Z. Came Assn.) WASHINGTON, May 7. The Senate debated the 529 million dollar Naval Bill to-day. Senator Nye was one of a few -to voice his objection to i'he nupreredeipcd size of the appropriation. He sought, though unsuccessfully, to have the entire 115 million dollars figured for ne,w const ruction struck from the measure. He declared: "The militarist dominion of Japan would have fallen of its own weight years ago, except' for the encouragement that has been jjiven to Japan’s inilit-'ary and naval leaders by the ever mounting expenditures in America.” He said ’that such large appropriations were bound ,to affect international relations,, with the foreign countries wishing to kuow why they were being authorised! by au America that. wa s bent ou peace as its official utterances would indicate.
