SYDNEY, May 1. A record speed of eighty-five miles an hour for the New South Wales railways was attained by the Newcastle “Flier” during a recent run from Sydney to Newcastle. It covered 104'miles in 2 hours 10 minutes, af an average speed of 48 miles an hour, SYDNEY, Alay 1. John Allis F'ndluy; a former detective; Ernest Coonrbe an agent; and Charles Tanser, an agent, were each sentenced to eighteen months’ imprisonment. They were convicted on a charge that, with William Campbell, who pleaded guilty, they conspired to defraud the public in ri-spcci to the preparation known as “Chargol” for revitalising motor car batteries. The trial occupied nine, davs SYDNEY, Alay 1. A spectacular fire destroyed Webber’s sawmills and joinery works,, and an ice factory at South Grafton, also modern machinery, The damage i s e st>imated n.f £25,000.
