STANDING FOR PARNELL Government Attacked (Per Press Association;. AUCKLAND, August 1. Sir Alexander Herdman, who yesterday retired from the Supremo Court Bench, replying to the request of a deputation thin afternoon, announced that he wou'd be a Parliamentary candidate for the Parnell seat at the general election. Sir Alexander delivered a most trenchant' criticism of present-day politics. He announced that he would do his utmost to remove the Forbes-Coates Government from office as speedily as possible. Sir A. Herdman did not indicate under what banner he would stand but he said that, if necessary, he would fight alone. The deputation numbered about 150 e'cctors. Sir Alexander declared himself opposed to the Labour Party. lie claimed that' thou sands of New Zealand workers saw that Socialism or Communism led even 'tually to unhappiness. While he held Messrs Forbes and Coates personally in esteem, he would do his utmost to remove their Government from office.
